‘Healthy Hillsboro’ named 2022’s outstanding rural health model by NRHA

Innovative local partnerships are needed to create sustainable health improvements in rural communities. The "Healthy Hillsboro" model, developed by SIU Medicine Department of Population Science and Policy and Hillsboro Area Hospital has pulled together a community hospital, an academic medical department and a health-focused corporate philanthropy to create community connection, project design and funding needed to successfully move the dial on mental and physical health. This project, recently recognized by the National Rural Health Association with the 2022 "Outstanding Rural Health Program" Award, is improving the social determinants of health and quality of life in Hillsboro, IL, in collaboration with local school districts and community organizations.

This award-winning model will be the focus of a webinar, "Healthy Hillsboro: The Power of Rural Health, Community Partnerships, and Philanthropy," on Tuesday, July 26 from noon to 1 p.m. and will feature Rex Brown, President/CEO, Hillsboro Area Hospital; Brock Slabach, COO, National Rural Health Association; Nicole Summers-Gabr, Assistant Professor and Director of Social Innovation, SIU Medicine Department of Population Science and Policy; and Katie Cangemi, Senior Program Officer, Community Investment, Blue Cross Blue Shield. Advance registration is required for this free webinar. This is the second event of the 2022 "Innovating Illinois Rural Health Event" Series.
