Pediatric Simulation and Seminar

This no-cost, in-person educational event will involve a high-fidelity simulation with a mannequin, hands-on skills stations, and walk learners through a variety of case scenarios.

Topics:

  • Identify priorities when managing a child with sepsis.
  • Demonstrate how to critically think through steps in care of a child with sepsis.
  • Identify signs and symptoms of pediatric seizures/spasms, RSV, asthma, or DKA and identify ways to stabilize child for transport to a higher level of care through case studies.
  • Develop hands-on skills including: fluid resuscitation: push/pull method, pediatric urinary catheterization, IV starts, airway management, and pediatric IV medication administration.

By attending this event, you will be better prepared to provide high quality emergency care for children presenting in the Emergency Department.

Ginger Barton, MSN, RN
Ginger B Barton RN MSN is a Pediatric Clinical Education Scholar with the Children’s Service Line at OSF Healthcare Children’s Hospital of Illinois. In this role, Ginger is responsible for quality outcomes of care delivery to Pediatric patients across the OSF Healthcare Ministry. Ginger has an extensive background in clinical education, management, and quality outcome measures across the spectrum of pediatric care. Her 36-year career to date has included clinical experience in Neonatal Intensive care, Pediatric Intensive/Intermediate Care, Pediatric Oncology, and Mother/ Baby.

Melissa Leverton, BSN, RN
Missy is a Pediatric Clinical Education Scholar for the OSF Children’s Service Line. Her focus is on pediatric education throughout the ministry as well as regional hospitals who take care of pediatric patients or transfer them to CHOI. Missy has been with OSF since 1985 starting as a PCL/PCT, becoming a nurse in Pediatrics in 1988.

Contact Hours

4.0 nursing contact hours will be offered upon successful completion of the program.

Successful completion: Participants must participate in the entire program and complete the evaluation to receive a certificate.
