Susan Corbridge, PhD, APRN, FAANP, FCCP, FAAN Chief Education Innovation Officer, American
Association of Colleges of Nursing
- Rural Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) face complex healthcare challenges that demand more than clinical expertise—they need leadership skills. Developing these competencies empowers APPs to drive innovation, improve team performance, and expand patient access in resource-limited settings. Leadership growth also strengthens confidence, increases job satisfaction, and reduces burnout, building a resilient, engaged workforce—while providing a strong return on investment for health systems through improved retention, efficiency, and quality of care

Fragile Systems: Revising Hospitals’ Approach to Community Health
Zachary Benedict, AIA Principal, MKM Architecture and Design
- Less than twenty percent of the population’s health drivers are a result of clinical care or our genetic makeup. The remaining determinates result from the socio-economic factors that frame our everyday lives – a system that has become increasingly fragile in recent years (especially within rural settings). Over the next two decades many communities throughout the Midwest will see unprecedented challenges. While the needs of a rapidly aging society will continue to shape local economies, the growing financial complexities of the healthcare system will jeopardize the sustainable presence of hospital facilities in many communities. This presentation will discuss how healthcare providers can inform a new approach to economic development aimed at creating lifelong communities whose effectiveness is measured by their ability to provide robust social interaction and a sense of communal belonging. It’s a bold vision for the future of healthcare that will require dynamic leadership at the local level to overhaul the industry’s approach to health.
