AHIMA Foundation Apprenticeship Program:In 2015, the AHIMA Foundation received a $4.9 million 5-year federal Department of Labor grant to support and maintain registered apprenticeships in health information management (HIM) roles. The training can be used to train new employees or to upskill existing staff. This apprenticeship model has been successful in critical access hospitals around the country.  . The program offers free HIM training through apprenticeship in one of the 5 roles.

 Barbara A. Glondys, MA, RHIA, CHPS – AHIMA Foundation Apprenticeship Navigator and SME for the Department of Labor Apprenticeship Grant. She has worked in the field of health information management for over 35 years.

Rana Abuzir, RHIT – AHIMA Foundation’s Coder Trainer for the Department of Labor Apprenticeship Grant.

 

Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI): Effective CDI programs insure the reporting and reflecting of the right care at the right time for the right reason in the right venue with the right clinical judgment and medical decision making with the right plan of care with the right clinical documentation.
