Patient medical expenses are often the result of unexpected events, and patients may not be familiar with their insurance benefits or the charges involved for receiving healthcare.
With increasing deductibles and diminishing reimbursement, hospitals must look for ways to increase revenue and improve cash flow. One area that they can turn their focus to is improving their point of service collection strategy. Not only will this increase revenue collected at the door, it also lessens the impact of cost to collect post-service.
With proper training, front line staff will gain confidence when asking for upfront payment and become comfortable placing an expectation for payment with patients before services are rendered.
