The funding for the Flex Grant is through the Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Grant Program and made available to us through the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Center for Rural Health.

Grant agreements will be emailed to the winning hospital’s CEO/Administrator by the end of this week for signature and return. Due to new state requirements with the Grant Accountability and Transparency Act, all grant agreements need to be signed and returned no later than February 15th. Once the grant agreements are executed by both parties and the funding from the state is available, the grant awards will be issued and sent to your hospital’s CEO/Administrator. The grant project period is from September 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018. All grant projects must be completed by June 30th, with final grant report submitted to ICAHN no later than July 15th. Due to the Grant Recovery Act, grant project changes or extensions are not allowed after May 31, 2018 to ensure compliance with the state regulations. If you require a change to your grant project or an extension, please contact Mary Jane Clark, ICAHN’s Flex Coordinator, at mjclark@icahn.org or 309.331.4472.

For those hospitals that were not awarded a grant and would like some insight as to why, we encourage you to contact us as we might be able to provide information on how to make future applications successful. There are many reasons why an application is not selected to be awarded, but in most cases it is a result of the extremely competitive nature of the grants. Each application was reviewed by a group of independent reviewers. Reviewer’s scores were assigned to each application based on the merit of the proposed project, description of need and responsiveness to the questions. The scores from each reviewer were then averaged to determine the awardees for the grants. If you would like to discuss our process or your application in further detail, please do not hesitate to contact me at ltoth@icahn.org or 815.875.2999.
