Crawford Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce it has earned the 5-star ranking from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the highest rating bestowed. Fewer than 10 hospitals in Illinois are 5 star facilities.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment for us,” stated CMH CEO Doug Florkowski. “I could not be more proud of the team here. They are extraordinarily dedicated to their patients and this rating demonstrates that very clearly.”
CMS designed the star ratings as a way for the public to be able to easily compare hospitals, much like a hotel or restaurant rating. The rankings are based on data gathered from patient satisfaction surveys and as many as 57 quality measures, reflecting common conditions that hospitals treat, such as heart attacks or pneumonia. It includes information about rates of infection and complications after surgery.
“We regularly conduct exhaustive reviews of quality data and feedback from patient surveys,” noted Tammy Fralicker, Chief Nursing Officer at CMH. “This information helps us identify areas where we excel so we can further enhance that high level of service. If it reflects an aspect of care that needs development, we implement a change process to improve it. It’s a team effort that really examines the full scope of patient care.”
