PCH/FMC Welcomes Doctor of Physical Therapy

11/27/2015

(Paris, Ill.)–Paris Community Hospital/Family Medical Center welcomes Paris native Annie Wooten (Barrett), doctor of physical therapy (DPT), to its Rehabilitation Services Department.

As a physical therapist, Wooten evaluates, designs, and implements personalized plans of care for patients who require physical therapy services. She is one of three DPTs practicing physical therapy at PCH/FMC. The service includes a physical therapist and four physical therapist assistants.
“I’ve always been interested in science and sports, particularly the why–such as why does this athlete have recurrent ankle sprains and this other athlete doesn’t,” Wooten said.

Prior to PCH/FMC, Wooten worked as a physical therapist in Terre Haute. She earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise science and doctorate degree in physical therapy at the University of Evansville.

Wooten graduated from Paris high school, where she participated in basketball, tennis, and track. As a high school senior, she participated in the health occupations class at PCH/FMC, which prepares students for healthcare careers. As a college student, she served an internship with the hospital’s cardiac rehab department. She received college scholarships from the PCH Volunteers and various other local organizations.

“It was always my goal to come back to Paris and give back to my community,” she said.

As a physical therapist, Wooten’s “passion” is injury prevention. Her interests include fall prevention, ergonomics (the study of people's efficiency in their work environment), and the rehabilitation of orthopedic injuries.

Wooten recently wed Nathan Barrett. The couple resides in Paris. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, playing tennis, and spending time with her dog, Shiloh.

The PCH/FMC Rehabilitation Services Department provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and cardiac rehabilitation.  For more information about these services, call 217-465-2606, Ext. 244 or visit ParisCommunityHospital.com/rehab.
