The Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network recently awarded Joann Emge, CEO, Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta, its President’s Award for her dedicated service to the statewide hospital organization. Most recently serving the ICAHN network as a Board member and chairman of its Education Committee, Ms. Emge has been a tremendous supporter of the organization whose mission is to strengthen and provide assistance and resources to its 53 member hospitals.
“Joann is an individual who never hesitates to lead and accept new challenges to improve the care and services not only for her hospital and community, but also for fellow critical access hospitals. When Sparta Community Hospital was approved as the 50th CAH in November of 2005, Joann was at the helm, leading Sparta through the successful conversion,” said Pat Schou, ICAHN Executive Director, during ceremonies held November 11th at The Crowne Plaza, Springfield. “Sparta joined ICAHN in 2005 and soon after, Joann volunteered her services on the Education Committee and has chaired the Committee for the past several years. Last year, when IRCCO (Illinois Rural Community Care Organization) was created, Joann agreed to lead our transformation efforts and care coordination adoption.
“It is not an easy task to be a change agent, and Joann has done so by being a role model and taking the first step,” said Schou. “She is truly deserving of this award.”
